The story behind Skinnyalley Collectibles

Hi, I'm Ram, founder of Skinnyalley Collectibles.

Like many kids growing up in India during the 80s and 90s, my childhood was filled with unforgettable animated shows like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (MOTU), Fireball XL5, and G.I. Joe. My parents introduced me to these classics, and although buying action figures and collectibles wasn't easy for them, they always found a way to surprise me with one on my birthday, after a good report card, or simply when I had been on my best behaviour. Those moments made every figure incredibly special.

Most of my childhood collection consisted of G.I. Joe, Hot Wheels and MOTU figures. Like many young collectors, I didn't realize their value back then, and over the years they were lost, damaged, or simply disappeared. Today, I often smile thinking about those memories—they're what sparked a lifelong passion for collecting.

As I grew older, my love for superheroes only deepened. During my school and college years, I would save every bit of my pocket money to buy Gotham Comics from my local comic shop. Those were exciting times for collectors in India. International comics and collectibles were hard to find, making every purchase feel like discovering hidden treasure.

Collecting has evolved tremendously over the years. Today, there are countless incredible releases every month from diecast models and action figures to comics and premium collectibles. While that's exciting, it also makes collecting more challenging. My advice to every collector is simple: collect what truly makes you happy. Don't feel pressured to own everything. Create your own wishlist, focus on the lines and characters you genuinely love, and enjoy the journey. Smaller scale collectibles, especially 1:64 diecast models, are a wonderful way to build an
impressive collection without needing endless space.

My passion for collecting eventually inspired me to create Skinnyalley Collectibles which was a dream since ages. The goal was never just to sell collectibles—it was to build a community where enthusiasts across India could discover authentic products, relive their childhood memories, and own the collectibles they always dreamed of having.

One of the proud milestones in my collecting journey was showcasing my collection at Mumbai Comic Con in 2011, where I met passionate collectors from across the country. It was there that I realized I wasn't alone—there were countless people who shared the same excitement and passion for this hobby. I made lifelong friendships within the collector community and watched many of those fellow enthusiasts go on to build successful collectible businesses, helping shape India's growing collector ecosystem.

Although career commitments meant I had to pause my involvement in the hobby for a while, my passion never faded. Today, Skinnyalley Collectibles is the realization of a dream that has been with me since childhood.
